In the competition for popularity, attractiveness and footfall business locations realise the rising importance of regional location cooperation for the future. Customers regard local economic systems with their range of goods for sale and services available as a “whole” and do not differentiate in their awareness and selection by council or municipal borders. The two local authorities of Lienz and Nußdorf/Debant are aware of this and with their project “A thousand businesses at a click” aim to take joint steps towards business location marketing in the Lienz region. A two-tier set of measures has been agreed upon:

  1. Together with the local firms and the chamber of commerce and with the methodical support of the CIMA Institute Austria/Germany, the local authorities of Lienz and Nußdorf/Debant will collect economic and structural data in order to gain a total overview of the existing structure and the products in the retail trade sector in the Lienz basin, categorized by type of business, location and range of products. This data collection in the firms will be complemented by a telephone survey on the shopping habits of 3,000 consumers in East Tyrol, South Tyrol and Upper Carinthia.
  2. Recording data such as the individual opening hours, product emphasis and specific services of the companies will, moreover, provide the prerequisite for the creation and installation of a joint interactive communications platform in the form of a website. All businesses in both local authorities will be registered along with their products and within this cooperation be presented as “one” attractive and comprehensive business platform on the Net.

With special search criteria according to sector and product concentration, the locations of the firms will be highlighted in a digital town map with their premises and in relation to the nearest car park. With this networking and cooperation between the extensive range of products of the merchants and the capacity of the service providers and rounded off with the presentation of the diversity of the local catering businesses the objective is to present the Lienz basin to a wider public as an attractive business location with an overall range of products and thus create better access to and cater more for the consumers. With the help of this tool the smaller, owner-managed firms in particular will be able to take individual advantage of the overall presentation of the variety of products of this business community and thus benefit competitively from the larger, common presentation.

At regular intervals a newsletter will inform the consumers from far and near about special offers and services of the businesses in the Lienz basin and entice them to visit.

The cooperative collection of the structural data and the presentation of the businesses on a joint platform will be effected for the first time in Tyrol in this cross-council form and will act as a pilot project in the sense that it will enable a new understanding of inter-communal cooperation between entrepreneurs and their local authorities with a view to a location partnership.

The internet platform www.lienz-hat-es.at will be officially launched in May 2008.
